Historical
Highlights
The
Echo Hotels has served the Edinburg community for more than 80 years.
The
hotel was originally established by a group of citizens who wanted
to build a hotel to host conferences. The
Edinburg Community
Hotel Organization
named their state-of-the-art hotel & conference center using
the acronym for their organization.
Over
1,000 people participated by buying 'shares' of the hotel, including
mom & pop stores throughout the area.
The
hotel opened in 1958, with it's official Grand Opening held in March
of 1959.
The
Echo Hotel changed hands in 1990, and has since gone through many
upgrades, while retaining the charm & nostalgia of the original
Echo Hotel.
"It's
our people that make the hotel so unique. The people that got a
hold of the hotel in the early '90s, they really came in and made
improvements to it and ever since then they have been working hard
to make changes and improve the hotel's image, always keeping it
up to date" says Joe Nuniz, hotel manager for the past 25 years.
The
Echo Hotel & Conference Center is a full service hotel including
a restaurant, bar area and banquet facilities, with onsite barbershop
and travel agency.
